Previously, I co-founded ZeroDegrees, a business social network (sold to IAC/InterActiveCorp in 2004). I was CEO and co-founder of SuperSig in 1999. I also co-founded The Palace, Inc., an early (1995) avatar chat platform backed by Intel, Time Warner and Softbank with 10 million users (sold to Communities.com in 1998).

Max Quick 2 Podiobook: Nearly Finished
This weekend, I completed the performances for the wrap-up chapters of both the 'Arturo Gyp' and the '1912' storylines. After that, I have one last bit of business to wrap in 1912 New York -- just the little matter of Max's secret being revealed -- and then onto the last chapter of the book which sets up Max Quick Book 3: The Bane of the Bondsman.
But these last two performances -- 'Blackthorne' and 'Madworth and the Machine' -- were huge undertakings, both which I completed this weekend. I still have to mix them down (well, and the 'Old Friends' 1912 episode which preludes in the 'M&M' finale.)
On top of that, I kicked out 4 -- count 'em 4 -- new MQ2 episodes this past weekend.
So. Don't never say I didn't do nothin' for ya. :)

Olivier!
Sorry could not resist The Obvious Pun. :) A reader, or listener actually, named Olivier sent in this picture of 'Travelers' on his red iPod. He is French but works in Switzerland. I do not know if he works at the LHC, but yes, I did ask, and will let you all know.
He writes: "I thank you very much for the time you have to record your book. Know that I'm listening to every new chapter in the train (50 minute ride) when I'm going back home, and really enjoy the story ! Keep going!"
Well damn. I was going to loaf today, but now I guess I should get mixing and recording again for at least part of the day.

Mahalo Releases Hbase Backup Utility
We (Mahalo) have just released a backup and restore tool for HBase.
From the docs:
Attached is a simple import, export, and backup utility. Mahalo.com has been using this in production for several months to back up our HBase clusters as well as to migrate data from production to development clusters, etc.
Simple MapReduce job for exporting data from an HBase table. The exported data is in a simple, flat format that can then be imported using another MapReduce job. This gives you both a backup capability, and a simple way to import and export data from tables.
The output of a backup job is a flat text file, or series of flat text files. Each row is represented by a single line, with each item tab delimited. Column names are plain text, while column values are base 64 encoded. This helps us deal with tabs and line breaks in the data. Generally you should not have to worry about this at all.
